Ukraine | Let Girls Learn | Camp GLOW with the Boarding School
volunteer from Texas
This project has three components. The first is an 8-day camp that targets secondary age girls in Ukraine. It's a continuation of the annual Camp GLOW (Girls Leading Our World) which is a Peace Corps camp that began and was continued by volunteers in cooperation with host country partners. The mission of Camp GLOW is to empower and educate girls by raising awareness about gender and human rights issues. The program includes lessons and activities on important topics such as equality, leadership, and healthy lifestyles. Afterwards, they are encouraged to bring the knowledge and skills they acquired back to their communities by conducting small projects and/or leading initiatives to spread awareness of these issues. The second component is collaboration with Ukrainians throughout all the phases of the project. Half of the 18-member staff will be educators, university students and other local stakeholders. Camp GLOW will give them an opportunity to be active in a community project and build leadership skills. The third component is partnership with a boarding school that is not only the project partner but will serve as the venue as well. Due to the educational structure, this means cooperation with regional education department. This project will provide both parties with grant writing and project management experience. In turn, they have committed to in-kind contributions such as labor, equipment, excursions, and bathroom improvements. This project can potentially have an overall impact on personal development, education, and inter-community cooperation for people of all ages.
This project has been designed to expand access to education for girls in Ukraine as part of the Let Girls Learn Program. Learn more at letgirlslearn.peacecorps.gov.
