Group class work discussion.

Students, teachers, and administration desire to both participate in and organize Camp L.E.A.D (Leadership, Equality, and Active Democracy). The camp will provide an interactive venue where 20 students from the local region and 30 teachers from various oblasts around the country will partake in participant centered trainings and activities on gender issues, democratic leadership skills and English language skills.

By the end of the camp, students and teachers will have the knowledge, ability and materials necessary to reach the second objective of our project which will be for participants to initiate LEAD Activities at their own schools. These activities could take the form of workshops, clubs, or seminars for students.

Camp LEAD will be divided into parallel groups of students and teachers. Although the content for both groups will be the same, the methods and delivery of the content will be different.

With the help of 10 qualified Peace Corps Volunteers and a Ukrainian trainer, Camp LEAD will provide participants with essential skills directly related to the afore mentioned themes. Skills linked to democratic leadership will include complex problem solving, leadership styles and team dynamics. Gender issues in Ukraine will be covered through topics related to gender equality, human trafficking, HIV, sex education and self-esteem building.

After this camp, student participants will be able to initiate activities for their peers on gender equality and leadership related topics. Teacher participants will be able to hold various activities related to leadership and gender issues for their own students upon returning to their communities.

This project has been designed to expand access to education for girls in Ukraine as part of the Let Girls Learn Program. Learn more at
