This project aims to fund the purchase and installation of 12 computers in an already constructed, purpose built technology center at the Secondary School (KSS), a boarding school for young women located in Central. With a fully equipped technology center, KSS will host computer literacy training conducted by the PCV for several different target audiences, with a main focus on female youth, as well as offer Computer Studies courses, a subject that is offered for testing on the Malawi School Certification Exam. KSS's prime objective is to boost computer literacy skills and examination scores of the boarding girls and 13 teachers. Beyond this, access to the technology center will allow for diversification of skill sets through access to electronic based resources for our target audience, and others, and ultimately increase employability and competitiveness in further education for those who attend our computer courses. This program falls in line with the goals of Let Girls Learn in the Peace Corps context, in that it will provide and complement elements of the STEM educational program while being conducted in a safe and secure study space.

KSS, and the partner PCV, will conduct the training of two qualified technology instructors to ensure the sustainability of the project and to create strong male and female leaders at a local level. During the construction of the physical building now complete, the community was active in contributing materials, transport and labor. Overall, this project will help supplement educational development through teacher training, with special interest at decreasing disparity in female educational attainment through improved access to information and technology resources.

This project has been designed to expand access to education for girls in Malawi as part of the Let Girls Learn Program. Learn more at letgirlslearn.peacecorps.gov.
