Paraguay | Paraguay Verde VII

Paraguay Verde is an annual 3-day/2-night summer camp designed for Paraguayan youth leaders passionate about the environment. The camp includes workshops, presentations, and activities about environmental issues and solutions in Paraguay.

This year's theme is national parks and protected areas. Activities will be geared towards forests, wildlife, water, and environmental stewardship within Paraguay. We hope to instill a newfound appreciation for the wide range of biodiversity found in Paraguay'€™s parks, and that youths will be inspired to share their knowledge and passion with others.

We are partnering with a local Paraguayan NGO in the planning and execution of this camp. Other leading Paraguayan NGOs will also be supporting our initiative.

Paraguay Verde provides an additional focus on youth group formation and project design/implementation. Many of these campers are, or will become, vehicles of change in their communities. In the past, campers have gone on to form community action youth groups, to plant trees, work in trash management, and celebrate environmental holidays.

Following camp, youths also have the opportunity to help support Peace Corps Volunteers to plan a one-day camp called Paraguay Verde-i, in their own communities. We believe that many of these youths will determine the environmental future of Paraguay. By creating environmental youth leaders, we hope to cause a ripple effect of change that will extend far beyond Peace Corps and long outlast our services.
