Macedonia | Let Girls Learn | Theater Lab

Smith, B
volunteer from Vermont
in Macedonia
Two girls act out the wizard of oz.
Two girls stand on stage as characters from the Wizard of Oz.

The project's main aim is to provide a safe space for the young Albanian women, ages 14-22, of local villages to talk about the challenges they face on a daily basis and express themselves in a creative way. The project will provide the women with a safe space to express themselves and discuss tough topics that are relevant to their age group such as: sexual assault, societal pressures, self-esteem, body image, and relationships.

The 6 month project will consist of a 4 month implementation stage with 2 hours each week of primarily expressive theater workshops and some expressive art workshops which will help these young women grow. The project is supported by the community through donated materials, space, and volunteer hours.

This project has been designed to expand access to education for girls in Macedonia as part of the Let Girls Learn Program. Learn more at letgirlslearn.peacecorps.gov.

Your contribution increases the impact of Ms. Smith, her fellow Peace Corps Volunteers, and their communities; and makes a brighter future possible for young women in Macedonia.
